Info on Club Awards

As your club’s VPE, you are responsible for planning meeting agendas and helping members achieve their educational and leadership goals. Both activities work towards assisting the club in becoming Distinguished, Select Distinguished, or Presidents Distinguished.

In recognition of the importance the role of VPE plays in the educational and leadership achievements of each club, the District is pleased to announce two new awards.

Excellence in Education

This award will be given to a club that meets either of the following criteria:

  • Achieves four CCs as set out in goals #1 and #2 in the Distinguished Club Program for three successive years or;
  • Achieves two ACs as set out in goals #3 and #4 in the Distinguished Club Program for three successive years.

Excellence in Leadership

This award will be given to a club that meets the following criteria:

  • Achieves two CLs (old or new), ALBs, ALSs, or DTMs as set out in goals #5 and #6 in the Distinguished Club Program for three successive years plus;
  • Achieves goal #9 in the DCP by having at least four officers trained in each Club Officer training session in the current Toastmasters year.

Toastmaster of the Year Award

Successful and committed members give rise to successful clubs. Recognizing members’ achievements keeps them motivated to continue and may spur other members to increase their level of participation. This award provides clubs with a consistent means of measuring members’ contribution to the club, its members, and personal achievements. Every Area Governor will be looking for your club’s winner to determine the Area Toastmaster of the Year. The District Toastmaster of the Year is then chosen from the pool of Area winners.

Use the form #1113 and start tracking the measurements today so that you are ready to submit your club’s winner in June. You can also order awards and certificates from the TI catalogue. I remember receiving the Area Toastmaster of the Year award in 2001. I received an engraved plaque ( item #1969A) and it hangs proudly on my home office wall.

Competent Leaders

Did you know that there are many CLs in our clubs just waiting to be born? Every time a member serves in a club meeting role it can be counted towards one of the 10 projects in the Competent Leadership manual. All that is required is that an evaluator completes the written feedback in the Competent Communicator manual. Ask your members if they can step up and submit a CL this year.

Your efforts as VPE are crucial to the success of your members. Plan your meeting roles in advance, challenge your members to accept a new meeting role; coach them; encourage them; mentor them. You will see a big difference in your members’ interest and your club’s success.
